This is a collection of Australasian feature film data that began life online (not on this website) in 1998.
I taught a unit called Australian Cinema at Murdoch University for ten years until I retired at the end of 2008. My approach to teaching - and writing the book which I used as my textbook, Ten Types of Australian Film - was through genre, films of different kinds, and this site contains pages of films based on type - or subject-matter.
Feature films that gained AACTA awards 2017.
Lion (Garth Davis, 2015) won almost all the awards, which is not only lazily undiscriminating but also wrong: it wasn't the best film—which was Hounds of Love (Ben Young, 2016).
Some recent additions/changes: Mary Magdalene (Garth Davis, 2018), The Gateway (John V. Soto, 2018); The Intruders (Lee Robinson, 1969) Oscars, Oscars 2018; remakes/series; Swinging Safari (Stephan Elliott, 2018), Cargo (Yolanda Ramke, Ben Howling, 2017), Three Summers (Ben Elton, 2017), Jungle (Greg McLean, 2017), Australia Day (Kriv Stenders, 2017), Sweet Country (Warwick Thornton, 2017), A Few Less Men (Mark Lamprell, 2017), Ali's Wedding (Jeffrey Walker, 2017), Ellipsis (David Wenham, 2017), Hounds of Love (Ben Young, 2016). I hesitate to mention that I have a collection of 'reviews' (they are just brief notes) of a few hundred non-Australasian films.
