King Lear (Richard Eyre, 2018) telemovie; 115 min.
Anthony Hopkins, Jim Broadbent, Jim Carter, Emma Thompson, Emily Watson, Karl Johnson, Andrew Scott
I thought Emily Watson was a good actress until I saw her playing Emma Thompson's sister. But everyone is good, except for Florence Pugh's wishy-washy Cordelia. Andrew Scott steals scenes, as he does. Hopkins doesn't need my words: he's an institution.
I've also written a very short note about Olivier's Lear (1983). Ian McKellen did another, for TV, directed by Trevor Nunn (2008): haven't seen that yet.
