Kieran Darcy-Smith did a lot of work as an actor before beginning seriously as a director with Wish You Were Here in 2012, after directing several short films, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2003. Wish You Were Here was nominated for Best Film, Best Director etc. at the AACTA awards in 2013, and should have won a couple of awards, in my opinion, if these things were actually decided on merit. I don't think there is any doubt that Joel Edgerton gave the best performance in nominated films; it's scandalous that Chris O'Dowd won Best Actor.
