Justin Kurzel is making a career of the exploitation of sensationalist subjects. He stays on the surface of well-known unpleasant events without interest in any kind of context. Critics agree that we end up without any sense of how the Snowtown murders came to be committed. Macbeth becomes a series of skirmishes between mediaeval barons. We mainly see the Kelly gang as victims of horrible deaths. And Nitram depends almost entirely in its effect on what is not shown.
