Aaron Wilson was born in rural Australia, growing up fascinated with stories that explored notions of “other”. Aaron’s feature, Little Tornadoes, directed by Aaron and co-written alongside esteemed Australian writer Christos Tsiolkas, premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2021. Aaron’s most recent short VR film, Iopu, following a queer Samoan-Australian performer about to take the stage, also premiered at the 2021 Melbourne International Film Festival. Aaron won the 2021 ADG Award for Best Direction in an Interactive or Immersive title for Iopu.
In 2006, Aaron took part in a filmmaker residency program with Objectifs Centre for Filmmaking and Photography in Singapore, where he developed the script for his debut feature film, Canopy. The film premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, going onto selection for international festivals including Busan, Shanghai and Rotterdam.
