Apron Strings

Apron Strings (Sima Urale, 2008) Laila Rouass, Scott Wills, Jennifer Ludlam; family melodrama; NZ

A NZ film directed by a woman originally from Samoa. The title refers both to different cooking styles and milieux in the film, and also to the fact that the relationship between men and their mothers is a major theme. Tho it seems to be quite a charming and complex film - and I watched it twice - I didn't find it particularly involving myself. Possibly because there is no admirable heterosexual male in it. I should imagine that many women would find it simpatico, particularly if they have a sense of being deracinated.
