Lou

Lou (Belinda Chayko, 2010) John Hurt, Emily Barclay; melodrama

As someone the same age as Mick Jagger and, more to the point, Keith Richard, I occasionally think about Alzheimer's. I haven't yet seen Iris (Richard Eyre, 2001) so this was my first filmic encounter with the disease, fortunately in the sure hands of John Hurt (though I still have to trust Chayko and her script). It's scary; I was even more scared for the girls, Lou(ise) and her sisters. Is the film any good? I have no idea. It's effective.

It's a most beautifully performed piece by all concerned, with a notable presence from its young cast. Margaret Pomeranz, At the Movies.
