I watched this again because I wasn't sure from the first viewing whether Ruby was to be read as the 'same' character as Silvy. In the meantime someone has written a full summary of the story in Wikipedia. The category that this film belongs in is 'fantasy'. ... Which means we don't have be emotionally engaged in relationships but can just enjoy its artistic aspects.
