Armageddon Time (James Gray, 2022) Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, Banks Repeta, Anthony Hopkins; deeply personal coming-of-age story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream
I hope God knows why it's called that; I certainly don't. This is the most predictable film I've seen for a while. The presence of Anthony Hopkins makes no difference to its mundanity. I suppose I've seen most of his films, and this is the only one about which I could say that.
Things we discover: Jews and blacks (N******) are discriminated against.
If Banks Repeta is not yet gender dysphoric, they soon will be, when they read their fanmail.
Neither of the parents, Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong, were directed to find their characters. She is underplayed, and he is over-egged. As was the guy who played the teacher (both of those). ... Next film please.
