Beverly Hills Cop 2 (Tony Scott, 1987)
What can I say about this that you don’t already know? Eddie Murphy is brilliant: some of his performance as a conman (/cop) is such good ‘standup’ (if that’s an adequate word – but I hope you know what I mean) that it’s separable from the rest of the film, much of which the same old cop story. But there are moments of directorial brilliance: the opening crime action sequence is notable.
Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills to help Taggart and Rosewood investigate Chief Bogomil's near-fatal shooting and the series of 'alphabet crimes' associated with it.
