Gary Cooper

Just so you know: Cooper was born Frank, but changed his name to Gary after the town of Gary, Indiana, at the suggestion of his agent at the time, in 1925.

The town, in turn, was named after lawyer Elbert Henry Gary, who was the founding chairman of the United States Steel Corporation.

Most of the men called Gary after 1925 were named after Gary Cooper, whether they knew it or not.

But not me. I don't know why my mother chose my spelling (except that it was not for Cooper), but there are a Loch Garry and a Castle Garry in Scotland, so I tell people that's where my name comes from.
