The Courier (Dominic Cooke, 2021) Benedict Cumberbatch, Merab Ninidze
Cold War spy Greville Wynne and his Russian source try to put an end to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Top class, faultless film. Great writing, photography, editing. Not just a vehicle for Cumberbatch, who is a team player in this, tho the team is small. I hope it does well for its investors and producers. I didn't exactly enjoy it, because it recalls what Jeff Nuttall called Bomb Neurosis, and because I really cared about the two main characters. However, they are two things (subtext, and empathicity) which tend to move a work like this from entertainment into art.
Nuttall, Jeff 1968, Bomb Culture, Paladin.
