Last night I watched Das Experiment (Oliver Hirschbiegel, 2001) in what turned out to be an experimental way. Well into the film, the video stopped playing, while the audio continued. After about thirty-five seconds, the video started again, but continued to lag behind the video at that interval. I was quite glad in a way, as the story is quite oppressive, and it gave me something else to think about: trying to decipher the German dialogue and then matching it up with the video when it came along later. It turned a horrible experience into a challenging one.
