The Green Knight (David Lowery, 2021) Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Ralph Ineson
Peter Bradshaw:
Gawain is being tested. So are we. The visual brilliance of this film combines with shroomy toxicity and inexplicable moral grandeur: what a stunning experience. (The Guardian) 'Shroomy'? Was he shrooming when he wrote this rubbish?
I agree with Peter Bradshaw's second sentence. I failed the test.
Isn't it a bit too woke to cast Indians as characters from Welsh legends? But then this is a film in which the writer (who is also the director) doesn't know his 'thee' from his 'you', and has never heard of 'thou'.
The last line of dialogue is one of the few uttered by the green knight. He has just stroked Gawain's cheek, and says, 'Now give me your head.' I can only assume he is asking for fellatio.
