In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar Wai, 2000)

Yes, it was about time I saw In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar Wai, 2000) my first of his films. I need to see the beginning again because I can’t remember if we see Chow and Mrs Chan’s partner at all—but it’s clear that it is almost exclusively them that we see throughout. The claustrophobia of the apartment building in Hong Kong is conveyed simply, but with just enough variations on a theme to turn documentation into art. The lighting cinematography, however, is nothing but art. Fine poesis.
