Melancholia (Lars von Trier, 2011) Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Alexander Skarsgard. Two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth.
I usually see films long after everyone else, but even so – and even with the brevity with which I comment – I still try not to give too much away about the story. Not so Bob Ellis, who takes up almost all of the space in his long ‘review‘ doing just that – including the ending!
Nice to see Udo Kier on a screen again: he’s changed a bit, since his days with Paul Morrissey.
For a film presumably about (inter alia) depression, this is not nearly as depressing as, say, Antichrist: now that was a bummer.
