Mélo (Alain Resnais, 1986)
Resnais began his career with two very noticeable features, Last Year at Marienbad and Hiroshima mon amour, and then, as far as I was knew, disappeared. Apparently he went on making films and this is one, and, if it's representative, as far as I'm concerned he needn't've bothered.
It's based on a play, and is about three privileged Parisian bourgeois who have nothing better to do than to be in love with each other. It doesn't turn out well, but I cdn't've cared less. I don't know why it's called Mélo, but it might be short for melodrama (in the bad sense).
