Night of the Iguana

Night of the Iguana (John Huston, 1964)

Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, Deborah Kerr, Sue Lyon

A defrocked Episcopal clergyman leads a bus-load of middle-aged Baptist women on a tour of the Mexican coast and comes to terms with the failure haunting his life.

I think this movie is out of (Huston's) control. Burton, Gardner, Kerr, and Lyon all play the kinds of characters for which they were cast, but there's no cohesion, no overall view of Tennessee Williams's play, no thematic structure.

Bosley Crowther has an excellent review in the NYT which I cannot quote because I will not pay to access it.
