Phantom Thread

Phantom Thread (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2017) v; 6 nominations; nomination for Best Actor Oscar 2018: Daniel Day-Lewis
[In 1950s London, Reynolds Woodcock is a renowned dressmaker whose fastidious life is disrupted by a young, strong-willed woman, Alma, who becomes his muse and lover.]

I haven't yet been able to see the film, so I read the 'review' in Sight & Sound, which is just a detailed, interpreted retelling of the story. ... Now I don't need to see the film, especially as I then watched a two-minute 'trailer'. If you want to have your first experience of this film totally spoilt, here's the link to that review.

Luke Buckmaster's review is much better.

I have now seen the film, and think Day-Lewis's nomination justified. It's not a particularly likeable experience, but it's undeniably a very well made film.
