Pieces of a Woman

Pieces of a Woman (Kornél Mundruczó, 2020) wr. Kata Wéber; Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf, Molly Parker, Sarah Snook, Iliza Shlesinger, Benny Safdie, Jimmie Fails, Ellen Burstyn

I couldn't see the point of this story. The first twenty minutes is like a training film demonstrating what to do when a baby is born 'blue'. You call 911. That's what the midwife does. ... The rest of the film is about whether she (the midwife) is going to have to go to jail for malpractice — when we've clearly seen that it was not the case. The mother decides not to proceed. The End. Or nearly. There's a coda in which a little girl appears to have become the replacement. There's some 'symbolism' to do with apples and their seeds. And some more to do with a bridge (apparently a real one) which gets built over the four or so months of the film's time period.
It's not so much pieces of a woman as pieces of a film: and the connexions between the pieces are tenuous.
