Thor: Ragnarok (Taiki Waititi, 2017) Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Hopkins; made in Queensland (that's in Australia)
This is half a dozen jokes separated by far too much very expensive SFX. Try to comprehend that this turkey grossed nearly a billion dollars! Try to imagine what else that could have bought: a greener planet, a cure for cancer ...
Waititi is true to his vision of himself as an artist, despite the egregious profligacy. Hemsworth, highest paid actor on earth, has a good time. Hopkins has too few lines. Cate Blanchett (highest paid actress* on earth? she's worth it) is once again unbelievably good. This was the second occasion when I watched half a film before suspecting it was she playing the part. (The other being Don't Look Up, Adam McKay, 2021.)
*I think I'm now supposed to write 'female actor'.
