United 93

United 93 (Paul Greengrass, 2006)

J.J. Johnson, Gary Commock, Polly Adams

A real-time account of the events on United Flight 93, one of the planes hijacked on September 11th, 2001 that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania when passengers foiled the terrorist plot.

I’ve forgotten why I chose to watch this, and I’m sorry I did. It may have been that Paul Greengrass directed it, and I know he makes excellent action films – on the basis of his Bourne work. But maybe I should avoid Bloody Sunday (Paul Greengrass, 2002) for the same reason I shd’ve ducked this one: because I don’t want to have it in my memory.

If you don’t know: United 93 is a reconstruction of what may have occurred on the fourth plane on 9/11 – and probably did: imagine the outcry from the relatives if what is known about the ppl on the plane was misrepresented! Greengrass’s emphasis is on the disorganisation in both the civilian (ATC) and military organisations who might have dealt with the situation better – as compared to the resolve of the passengers on the fated airplane.
