Windrider (Vincent Monton, 1986) aka Making Waves; prod. Paul D. Barron, Barron Films; Bush Christmas Productions; Simon Chilvers, Tom Burlinson, Nicole Kidman, Jill Perryman, Charles Tingwell; Perth, WA; budget $2.5mill; dist. Hoyts; premiere 25 December 1986; 35mm.; 92 min.

This is one for the surfers, well, windsurfers specifically; and also for admirers of the young Nicole Kidman, still with broad Australian accent and gorgeous curly red hair. Interesting to see Steve Jodrell listed as 1st AD. Looks to me as tho Tom Burlinson is shorter than Nicole.

... the final film is not so much a comedy as a youth romance with rock music. ... some ... love scenes ... are startlingly frank, perhaps unnecessarily so, given the overall slightness of the material. ... basically rather bland picture which - apart from a sequence of a shark attack and the aforementioned love scenes - leaves little impression apart from the charms of high living in Perth. Stratton: 152-153.
