Time to Kill

Time to Kill (Herbert I. Leeds, 1942) Lloyd Nolan, Heather Angel, Doris Merrick; Philip Marlowe is hired to retrieve a valuable antique coin that was stolen from its owner by her son, who used it to pay off a blackmailer

Raymond Chandler's novel The High Window was made into a movie twice. This is the earlier one. The later was called The Brasher Doubloon (John Brahm, 1947) with George Montgomery as Marlowe.

This is the kind of the film they invented the term B-movie to classify. The one thing in its favour is that it presents all of Chandler's story - but of course without the great man's wit.
