Hercules Returns
Hercules Returns (David Parker, 1993) aka First Take Meets Hercules, The Last Temptation of Hercules; David Argue, Michael Carman, Mary Coustas, Bruce Spence; voices: Des Mangan, Sally Patience, Matthew King; Italian film used is Hercules, Samson, Maciste and Ursus the Invincibles
When Brad quits his job at a large cinema chain, to open his own picture theatre, his ex-boss sabotages the opening night by switching the Italian film with a non-subtitled version. Brad and his team hilariously improvise the dialogue to avert disaster.
Brad is David Argue. He's in the projection booth with Bruce Spence and Mary Coustas who are supposedly doing all the voices, but actually doing none. What they (the three actors) are mainly doing is supposedly producing the sound effects, involving a lot of water and hitting each other. But there's surpisingly (perhaps) little of that, and we mostly see the Italian epic Gli invincibili, as voiced, ridiculously, by Des Mangan and his team.
This started as a stage show called Double Take, in which Mangan and others provided alternative dialogue for films which films were already a bit OTT. It's the kind of film you watch again, with people who have also already seen it often enough to be able to say some of the best lines in anticipation.
